Govt to
present bill on needs of provinces: Salim
By Saad Saud
ISLAMABAD—Minister for Inter-Provincial Affairs Salim Saifullah Tuesday
told the National Assembly that the government would soon present a bill
regarding needs of provinces.
Speaking in the House he said a committee under Wasim Sajjad, leader of
the house in the Senate, was already working on the required draft.
He said the government is making efforts to meet the needs of smaller
provinces and remove any sense of deprivation.
The Minister made the observations while responding to a motion by MNA
Syed Naveed Qamar, who objected to non-observation of provincial quota
in the recruitment of constables in the Islamabad police department.
Naveed Qamar said a total 2112 appointments were made in the Islamabad
police. Out of this two appointments were made from Balochistan and 40
from Sindh, which he said was less than their quota allocated under the
constitution.
He urged the Federal Government to ensure provincial quota in
appointments.
Taking part in the discussion MNA Liaquat Baloch said the provinces
should be given rights according to their population and area and
requested the Federal Government to look into the recruitment to the
police in Islamabad.
He also drew attention to non-payment of honorarium to the employees of
police, CDA and other departments who performed duties during the
session, as was decided by the National Assembly.
Minister for Parliamentary Affair Dr. Sher Afgan Niazi said many had
been paid honorarium while some police personnel did not receive it and
he had asked IGP Islamabad to submit a report in this connection. He
assured the House that the matter would be resolved.
When Speaker NA Chaudhary Amir Hussain gave the floor to Minister of
State for Interior Zaffar Iqbal Warraich to explain the position about
implementation of quota in appointments in Islamabad police, MNA Hafiz
Hussain Ahmed pointed out the lack of quorum. The Speaker adjourned the
house till Wednesday evening. |
