No-trust move against Sindh PA Dy Speaker

KARACHI—The opposition in Sindh Assembly Monday suffered defeat on its
no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Rahila Tiwana.
Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah announced the opposition defeat when
none of the opposition members came forward to cast vote in favour of
their motion.
Earlier, the Speaker had announced that voting on the motion would
beheld at 4 P.M.
However, a number of opposition members said that their leader and some
other members from among the movers of the motion were yet to speak. But
speaker asked the Secretary of the Assembly to go ahead with the voting
process.
The Assembly Secretary Hadi Bux Jatoi called the first name fromthe
opposition and then from the treasury benches. But no one came forward
to cast vote. Speaker Muzaffar Hussain Shah said that since no one has
cast the vote, the motion is defeated and adjourned the session till
September 19.
Earlier in her speech Deputy Speaker Rahila Tiwana criticized the PPP
and said the party had done nothing for Sindh and that it would get much
less votes in the province in the next elections.
She said when Murtaza Bhutto was assassinated and murderous attack was
planned on Nusrat Bhutto she wanted to move a resolution but PPP being
in power at that time would not allow her.
Rahila described President General Pervez Musharraf a revolutionary
personality and said he is steering the country successfully on the path
of progress and prosperity.
She said she as a student of Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah always
strived to run the House according to rules and regulations in a
non-partisan manner.
Earlier a number of members from the opposition and treasury benches
spoke on the motion. The treasury members criticized the opposition for
having a negative approach.
They said when people of Sindh were suffering because of heavy rains,
the so-called champions of the cause of people were sitting in Karachi
in their drawing rooms, totally unconcerned to the agonies of
rain-affected population. |
