Dr. Qadeer recovering after surgery: Durrani

KARACHI—Nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan’s detention in isolation and related steps of the government have been taken in the “best interest” of Dr. Khan, said Information Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani, while talking to newsmen, here on Sunday.
“Dr. Sahib’s condition is improving rapidly and he will be shifted to his sister’s residence very soon,” Durani told newsmen at Aga Khan Hospital, after visiting Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, who gone through a successful prostrate cancer surgery on Saturday.
Durrani said that the government has not restricted Dr. Khan’s close family members to meet him. “His wife and daughter and all close family members are with him…there is no such restriction on him,” he added.
When asked, the Information Minister said that Dr. Khan’s detention and other restrictions on him, including appearance to media etc., “are taken in his (Dr. Khan) best interest.”
“What we have done and what do we do in future will be in his best interest,” said the minister.
The minister said Dr. Khan is a national hero and success of his operation was outcome of prays of his 150 million admirers across the country.
Earlier, the Minister visited Dr. Khan in the hospital and presented a bucket and wished his early recovery. The minister stayed for some time with the Nation’s Hero.
Earlier in the day, a panel of doctors of the hospital as well as doctors specially flown from Islamabad medically examined Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan.
“He is examined today (Sunday) by the doctors of the hospital as well as by a team of doctors, especially flown from Islamabad,” hospital sources said.
Dr. Khan, was shifted to Karachi on Thursday, after a panel of doctors recommended him operation.
Hospital sources said “Dr. Khan may be kept for another 24 hours in the hospital, after which he will be shifted to his sister’s residence (in Karachi),” where he will be taking rest for at least two weeks.
Meanwhile, hundreds of his admirers sent bouquets and felicitation messages to the hospital, who were delivered to him.
Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat ul Ibad has sent fruits for Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan besides wishing him an early recovery.
