Pakistan to display gems, jewellery at Bangkok Fair

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan would showcase its gems and jewellary products at a five-day International Bangkok Fair 2006, beginning from September 13 in Thailand, official sources said.
The Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiativeshas recently approved the formation of a public/private SectorDevelopment Company - Pakistan Gems & Jewellery Development Company for theimplementation of various projects identified in the strategy for theuplift of gems and jewellery sector at global level.
They added that as a part of this effort, a 60-member delegation led by Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives, Jehangir Khan Tareen would participate in the Fair under a single umbrella brand and country pavilion.
The sources added that last year also Pakistan successfully participated in a the same, in which around 30 exhibitors participated.
In 2005, Pakistani exhibitors received highly encouraging inquiries from trade buyers in addition to export orders of more than US$ 4 million.
They further said that linkages with leading training institutes and prominent manufacturing companies were established, resulting in collaboration.
Gems and Jewellery Pakistan delegation and pavilion also gained recognition in international publications such as International Coloured Stones Association Magazine, Thai Gems & Jewellery magazine: Headlines and Jewellery News Asia, Hong Kong, they remarked.
They said that after these successes in 2005, it was decided to repeat participation at the 2006 fair and increasing the number of delegates to more than 50.
The official sources said that Government of Pakistan will bear all expenses related to the construction of branded country pavilion and the rent of booth space.
The government would also facilitate the country brochure with two pages dedicated to each exhibiting company along with free customs photography of their products.
The government would also facilitate the country documentary on DVD, Branded Giveaway items such as the extremely popular handbags distributed tocustomers last year and special gifts for dignitaries and owners of arge companies to be visited in Thailand.
Special badges and national flag pins and advertisement of the Pakistani Pavilion in Thai press would also be facilitated by the government.—APP
