No decision
on Rashid Rauf extradition

ISLAMABAD—Federal Secretary
Interior Syed Kamal Shah has said that the government has yet not
decided the extradition of Rashid Rauf, the main accused in London plane
bombing.
He stated this while addressing a passing out parade of 11th lower
school course at Police Line Training School and later talking to
reporters here on Saturday.
He said that the Pakistani national would not be handed over to any
country until the verdict of the case lodged against him in a police
station in Rawalpindi.
The federal Secretary Interior said that an application of UK government
regarding extradition of Rashid Rauf had been received but the decision
in this connection had so far not been taken.
He said Rauf was being questioned to know as to how long and what extent
he had links with Al Qaeda. He said the system of sharing information
with the British government still existed and talks pertaining to the
case were underway.
On Balochistan situation, Kamal Shah, said crackdown against the
remaining farari camps was continuing. He denied any operation in the
province saying that situation was under control. "No major incident has
taken place after the burial of Akbar Bugti," he added.
Earlier, addressing at the police passing out parade he said that
primary obligation of police was to check crimes and maintain law and
order. "Launching of CID department has been approved which will work
under the supervision of a Superintendent of Police," he said adding
that steps being taken to control crimes in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, Inspector General Police Islamabad, Iftikhar Ahmad Chaudhry
that separation of CID department would help control crimes in the
capital. Pilot projects of community policing had been launched, which
would help boost masses' trust.
He demanded of the secretary interior that a separate building should be
constructed for PTS and the allowances of training staff should be
restored along with all outstanding dues. The secretary interior assured
the IG of providing a separate building to PTS. He directed to prepare
PC-1 for metalling of the ground and send it to the Ministry of
Interior.
Earlier, Kamal Shah distributed awards and certificates among the
outstanding performers during passing out parade. |
