HEC’s 7th faculty development programme concludes

ISLAMABAD—The concluding ceremony of the 7th Faculty Development Programme organized by the Higher Education Commission was held under the auspices of Learning Innovation Department at the HEC Secretariat today.
‘The purpose of Faculty Development Programme is to expose the relatively fresh university/degree college teachers to new trends and challenges in higher education and provide orientation on modern methods of teaching and assessment as well as research methodologies,’ said Prof. Dr. Riaz Hussain Qureshi, Adviser QA & LI, who was chief guest on the occasion.
The Adviser emphasized that the quality of education could not be improved without improving quality of the teachers. “This priority of HEC is perpetuating itself through different training programmes for professional growth of university teachers who can spearhead the future generation dynamically”, he added.
Ms Noor Amna Malik, Director General, Learning Innovation, reiterated that professional growth of university teachers is a major mission of HEC. “The higher education teachers are confronted with the challenges of rapid pace of information onslaught and to cope with the situation, it is imperative to provide the university and college faculty with background and skills necessary for effective participation in academic research and administrative functioning of the universities”, she said.
Ms Malik advised the participants to practice the skills they learned during the session and asked them to motivate others for such trainings. She pointed out that all the participants have now become part of HEC’s drive to improve the standard of higher education.
Mr. Fida Hussain, Director, Learning Innovation, explained the various educational activities generated in the programme and said that these are directly aimed at facilitating the process of transformation by providing professional advice and support in matters pertaining to teaching and learning, curriculum development, instructional design and evaluation.
The participants also shared their experience and appreciated the initiatives of the HEC to improve the standard of teaching at the institutions of higher education. Certificates were awarded to the course participants by Adviser QA and LI.
