All laws to be in conformity with Islam : PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Friday reiterated that all laws in the country will be in complete conformity with Islamic teachings and in consonance with the guidelines laid down in the Holy Quran and Sunnah.

Talking to a group of parliamentarians led by Ch. Shujaat Hussain, at his Chamber in the Parliament, he said the Protection of Women's Rights Bill would safeguard their rights ensuring speedy justice and security.

Aziz said the steps taken by the PML government for empowerment of women were unprecedented in the country's history and the government was facilitating their participation in every sphere of life.

With the steps taken by the government, the women were now able to contribute in national development while more measures were being taken to further enhance their status in the society the Prime Minister added.

He told parliamentarians belonging to PML and allied parties, that the government was committed to women empowerment while remaining within the limits of religious, cultural norms and social values.

About plans for creation of jobs, the Prime Minister said government was focusing on imparting skills to the youth to enable them get employment inside and outside Pakistan through National Vocational Technical Training Education Commission (NAVTEC) which has been tasked to produce one million workers by 2010.

He said the training was being imparted on a fast track and NAVTEC would train 25,000 workers by December 2006, while 158,000 will be trained in skills, more in demand, by end of 2007.

The parliamentarians apprised the Prime Minister of development schemes in their constituencies and said the Muslim League and allied parties were making efforts for the welfare of masses.

They said as a result of government's efforts there was a visible improvement in the facilities of health, education, infrastructure farm-to-market roads even in the remote areas of the country.

The meeting was attended among others by Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education Ms. Zobaida Jalal, Minister for Law and Justice Wasi Zafar, Advisor to Prime Minister Commander Khalil-ur-Rehman, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Tariq Azeem, chief whip in National Assembly Nasrullah Dreshak and MNAs Rana Tariq Javed, Ms. Saima Akhtar Bharwana, Mazhar Qureshi, Rana Umar Nazir, Mehdi Hassan Bhatti and Muhammad Ibrahim Jatoi.
