Dr. Qadeer being shifted to Karachi

ISLAMABAD—Leading nuclear scientist Dr AQ Khan would be shifted to Karachi for Radical Prostectomy(surgery) at the Agha khan Hospital and post operative care, according to an official spokesman.
The government of Pakistan had issued a health bulletin on 22 august 2006 regarding the state of health of Dr A Q khan. It had been stated that the Dr A Q Khan had been diagnosed Adino Carcinoma ( cancer ) of the prostrate. The government had committed that because Dr A Q Khan's health was of public interest, it would keep public informed whenever necessary.
In the ensuing period, a board of doctors has been constituted in consultation with and to the entire satisfaction of Dr A Q Khan and his family. The board comprises of leading specialists in the country and include Dr Farhat Abbas, Urologist and Dean of Surgery, Agha Khan hospital Karachi, Dr Farook Karsan, Radio Oncolgist, Agha Khan Hospital Karachi, Dr Saeed Akhtar, Urologist, Shifa International Hospital Islamabad, Dr Karmran Majeed, Urologist and Director KRL hospital Islamabad, Dr Muhammad Saleem Qureshi, Medical specialist KRL Hospital, Brigadier r Muhammad Omar, Radiologist KRL Hospital, Colonel R Muhammad Naeem KRL Hospital and Lt Gen (r) Riaz Ahmed Chowhan, Former Personal physician to Dr Khan and ex Director K R L hospital, the spokesman said.
Detailed medical tests were conducted including CT Scan of abdomen and pelvis with contrast and CT Scan of lumber spine which showed the disease to be localized with no lymph node involvement. MRI Scan of Lumber, Thoracic and Cervical Spine was also carried out which excluded the spread of the effect of the Tumour, the spokesman said.
It was ascertained by the Doctors that Cancer of the prostrate Tumour has not effected other parts of the body and is localized. Ultrasound Scan of the prostrate repeated and reconfirmed that the Tumour seems resectable. The Doctors were unanimously of the view that out of the available options of Radical Prostectomy(surgery), Harmone Therapy and Radio Therapy, the first option of Radical Prostectomy(surgery) was the best option. In consultation with his family and after deliberate discussion with the doctors, Dr A Q khan has decided to undergo Radical Prostectomy(surgery) at the Agha khan Hospital in Karachi. He will accordingly be moving to Karachi shortly for surgery and post operative care.
The government remains committed to providing the best health facilities to Dr A Q KHAN, the spokesman said.
However according to a private TV channel it is likely that Dr AQ Khan would be operated on tomorrow (Friday) at the Agha Khan Hospital and ll arrangements in this respect have been completed.
Sensitive agencies team visited the Agha Khan hospital and reviewed the security arrangements, the TV channel reported.
