NA speaker urges govt to take House into confidence on peace agreement

ISLAMABAD—Speaker National Assembly Ch. Amir Hussain on Wednesday asked the government to take the House into confidence regarding the peace agreement struck with the militants in restive North Waziristan agency.
He made these observations responding the point of order of Naheed Khan.
The speaker NA observed that the government should release policy statement on national issues; however, he said it depends on the ministers' discretion.
Ms. Naheed Khan said that the House should be informed about the details of the peace agreement because the government has accepted all the conditions of the militants. She said that House should be apprised as to how much the government gained from the agreement.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sher Afgan Khan Niazi said that the opposition had been demanding political solution to the issue and now objection over the peace agreement is illogical. "The agreement is a breakthrough and situation is normalizing," he added.
He said under the agreement the Taliban could neither keep arms nor could infiltrate to Afghanistan.
Member National Assembly and member of the grand Jirga, Maulana Mirajud Din said that neither of the parties was victorious or defeated in the agreement. "We do not want war like situation," he said adding that the peace agreement should be hailed instead of adding fuel to the fire.
Earlier, the speaker National Assembly fired the treasury members for their late arrival to the House and threatened of adjourning the meeting.
Amir Hussain got furious when Minister for Religious Affairs Ijazul Haq, State Minister Amir Liaquat Hussain and secretary religious affairs were not present in the House to respond to the questions of the opposition.
Meanwhile the House witnessed exchange of hard words between the NA speaker and the Minister for religious affairs; however, minister for parliamentary affairs Sher Afgan intervened and apologized on behalf of Ijazul Haq.—Agenices
