MMA threats
resignations on women rights bill
ISLAMABAD—Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) will resign from National as
well as Balochistan Assemblies if the government tries to continue with
its attempts for approval of the so-called women rights bill in the
Parliament.
MMA Secretary General and opposition leader in National Assembly Maulana
Fazlur Reham said this while talking to newsmen at a press conference
after MMA supreme council meeting here on the residence of Qazi Hussain
Ahmad on Tuesday.
He said that MMA supreme council has deliberated over the bill and the
religious amalgamation was determined not to let the government change
the Hudood articles by approving the women protection bill in
Parliament.
He warned if the government makes any such attempt then MMA would resign
from National and Balochistan assemblies. "MMA has decided to call upon
meetings of national and provincial parliamentary parties to take
resignations of the members", he added.
He regretted that the undue favour of PPPP to the bill is causing harm
to the cause of joint opposition. "PPPP should not harm the cause of
joint opposition by its undue favour to the bill", he said.
He reiterated that army rulers are responsible for creating social and
political crisis in Balochistan. He demanded the government should stop
army operation in Balochistan and resolve the issue through political
process. "MMA is consulting major parties of Balochistan to avoid
Governor Raj in the province", he added.
He underlined that the government is involved in mega corruption in the
privatisation of Pakistan Steel Mills and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz
has failed to provide reasonable answer to opposition's charge sheet.
He underscored that large public meeting would be held in Rawalpindi
today (Wednesday) in which MMA leaders will address to the
people.—Online |
