No let up in action against Ferrari camps: Interior Minister

ISLAMABAD—Interior minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said grandsons of Nawab Akbar Bugti and Balaach Marri were running ferarri camps in Balochistan with the full support of Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
"Grandsons of Nawab Akbar Bugti and Balaach Marri son of Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri were running the Ferrari camps. Private militia was deployed in these camps and they were paid Rs 5000 to Rs 6000 each. These Ferrari camps were also being run by BLA, which was banned by the government", he said this while addressing a press conference here Tuesday in interior ministry.
A huge quantity of arms and ammunition has been seized, which had come from across the border, he told. The terrorists killed Chinese engineers, blew up gas pipelines and killed army and FC personnel, he added.
He held that terrorists were continuing terrorist activities since long in Balochistan. The strategic installations were targeted. The miscreants were targeting civilians and government functionaries.
He pointed out the government contacted Baloch nationalists on August, 7, 2004. Tariq Aziz had met Nawab Akbar Bugti alongwith governor Balochistan and briefed him about development projects. Bugti had also acknowledged that government had approached him. Later special parliamentary committee was set up. The committee members visited Balochistan and met with leadership of all the political parties and Nawab Akbar Bugti.
Work is underway on 29 out of 31 recommendations presented by Mushahid committee.
He went on to say that Balochistan was getting its due share in government jobs.
Provincial government had sought services of security forces to maintain law and orders situation in the province, he told. President General Pervez Musharraf and prime minister Shaukat Aziz had ruled out any military operation in Balochistan. Political dialogue continued till December, 2004. An agreement was also reached with Nawab Akbar Bugti but he did not sign it. He violated it and did not abolish check posts. Police and FC personnel were kidnapped. When the president general Pervez Musharraf was attacked upon in Kohlu , he had issued directives for not taking any action in this regard so that no other impression is created.
Later the operation was initiated against the Ferrari camps in Kohlu when IG FC was targeted, he informed.
There are only a few people who want to fan hatred, he added. Son of finance director of Quetta Electricity company was kidnapped following the killing of Akbar Bugti. The chief minister's residence was hit in Kalat and certain foreign elements were providing assistance to them so that the development works could not take place.
Opposition mentions the name of Bugti in the assemblies and does not raise voice about the innocent civilians who were killed by the terrorists, he alleged. We tried to settle the matters on several occasions but Nawab Bugti continued his work. Bugti collected funds from the government and spent them on acts of sabotage, he added.
When operation was started in Kohlu, Bugti was told the operation was focused and not directed against him, Sherpao held. Bugti rejected our message.
Sherpao reiterated government would establish its writ at every cost and no one would be allowed to take law into ones hands. We have no personal grudge against any one and no one is being targeted. Cases have been registered against the elements who are giving statements against the state. Operation will continue against the Ferrari camps. Civil government takes decisions and its policy is adopted.
He told that recommendations of parliamentary committee on Balochistan had not been rejected. Waseem Sajjad committee has not presented its recommendations so far. President Musharraf has also not rejected committee's recommendations and he supported them.
He went on to say amnesty is being granted to those who are surrendering their arms. President Musharraf is proceeding to Afghanistan today. " Therefore, I will say nothing about Afghanistan interference, he underlined.
About truce with the militants in Waziristan, the governor can better tell, he said adding the situation in Balochistan is different.
It is not in our knowledge if Barahmdakh Bugti and Balaach Marri were killed alongwith Akbar Bugti or other wise, he held.
To another question, he said NATO forces can not come to Pakistan on the demand of an individual or party. We are sovereign state.
Responding to a question, he told that request for handing over Rashid Rauf to British government has been received and we are considering it.
