MMA to decide
fate of Balochistan Govt today
ISLAMABAD—The Supreme Council of Mutahidda Majlis-e-Amal holds its
‘extra-ordinary’ meeting in Islamabad today (Tuesday) to discuss the
issue of parting ways, or otherwise, with Balochistan government.
The meeting, to be presided by the Jama’at-e-Islami chief, Qazi Hussain
Ahmad, will also discuss the issues of amendment in the Hudood
Ordinance, the health episode of nuclear scientist, Dr. Abdul Qadeer
Khan and the ‘political crisis’ in the country.
However, sources in the religious alliance confided, the Kohlu
operation, in which the Jamhoori Watan Party chief, Nawab Akbar Khan
Bugti was killed, will figure prominently.
They said that the provincial leader of the alliance, Maulana Mohammad
Khan Sheerani would brief the meeting about the prevailing situation in
Balochistan, in the wake of the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti.
The meeting comes on the heels of extensive politicking inside the
alliance weather, or not to, part ways with the provincial government of
Balochistan.
The MMA is an effective coalition partner in the government of Chief
Minister Jam Mohammad Yousaf, in which it is holding important
ministries, including that of Senior Minister.
The meeting will give a serious thought to the letter, which the
provincial Ameer of Jama’at-e-Islami in Balochistan, Maulana Abdul Haq
has written to the senior leadership of the alliance, proposing break-up
with the provincial government.
Besides the Maulana, other circles in the alliance are also in favour of
saying goodbye to Jam government.
“If the Majlis-e-Amal does not part ways with the provincial government
of Balochistan, it will become difficult for us to sit in the National
Assembly,” Hafiz Hussain Ahmad, senior Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam leader
told this news agency.
Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari is also in strong favor of separating from
the provincial government. He and Hafiz Hussain Ahmad are understood to
have asked their party chief, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman that this was the
opportune time to dissociate from Balochistan government.—SANA |
