ISLAMABAD—The Supreme Court of Pakistan disposed of 803 cases during the
month of August as against institution of 1015 new cases in the same
month.
This shows the ratio of disposal of cases as 4 out of 5 while this
performance id despite the hectic engagements/programs of Golden Jubilee
celebrations of the apex court in August with reference to an
International Judicial Conference held from August 11 to 14 in
Islamabad.
The Chief Justice and Judges of the apex court were awfully busy during
the first two weeks of August on this count.
Seen in this perspective this performance manifested the success of the
able and active guidance and policy of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice
Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Chief Justice of Pakistan constituted benches at the Principal seat,
Islamabad and Bench Registries of the apex court with the aim for
hearing the cases to minimize the backlog and provide quick relief to
the aggrieved persons.
Such benches were constituted despite summer vacations of the apex
court. At Principal seat 358 cases were decided as compared to newly
registered 440 cases.
At bench registry Lahore 354 cases were disposed of as compared to fresh
institution of 401 cases, at Branch Registry Karachi 4 cases were
disposed of whereas 39 cases were instituted at Peshawar Branch Registry
30 cases were disposed of against newly registered 97 cases and at
Quetta Branch Registry 57 cases were disposed of whereas 38 cases were
registered.
Thus total 803 cases were disposed of against the institution of 1015
cases in August. The backlog of on 1st August in the apex court was
13720 cases and 1015 cases were registered during the month of August.
Thus on 31st August the progressive total was 14735 (13720-1015), out of
which 803 cases were disposed during the said month. |
