SC decides 803 cases in August

ISLAMABAD—The Supreme Court of Pakistan disposed of 803 cases during the month of August as against institution of 1015 new cases in the same month.
This shows the ratio of disposal of cases as 4 out of 5 while this performance id despite the hectic engagements/programs of Golden Jubilee celebrations of the apex court in August with reference to an International Judicial Conference held from August 11 to 14 in Islamabad.
The Chief Justice and Judges of the apex court were awfully busy during the first two weeks of August on this count.
Seen in this perspective this performance manifested the success of the able and active guidance and policy of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Chief Justice of Pakistan constituted benches at the Principal seat, Islamabad and Bench Registries of the apex court with the aim for hearing the cases to minimize the backlog and provide quick relief to the aggrieved persons.
Such benches were constituted despite summer vacations of the apex court. At Principal seat 358 cases were decided as compared to newly registered 440 cases.
At bench registry Lahore 354 cases were disposed of as compared to fresh institution of 401 cases, at Branch Registry Karachi 4 cases were disposed of whereas 39 cases were instituted at Peshawar Branch Registry 30 cases were disposed of against newly registered 97 cases and at Quetta Branch Registry 57 cases were disposed of whereas 38 cases were registered.
Thus total 803 cases were disposed of against the institution of 1015 cases in August. The backlog of on 1st August in the apex court was 13720 cases and 1015 cases were registered during the month of August.
Thus on 31st August the progressive total was 14735 (13720-1015), out of which 803 cases were disposed during the said month.
