PGF name Pakistan team for World Golf Championship

KARACHI—Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) Saturday named a three-member Pakistan squad for the World Team Golf Championship "Eisenhower Trophy" schedule to be held in South Africa from October 26 to 29.
Team which was picked after extensive trials in Karachi and Lahore included Karachi's Muhammad Ali Hai, Vaqas Ahmed from Rawalpindi and Muhammad Safdar from Gujranwala. Tariq Mahmood from Pakistan Navy was picked as standby.
Lt.Col (Retd) Zulfqar Ahmed, Secretary Punjab Golf Association will accompany the team as manager.
Teams from over fifty nations will be featuring in the four-day competition played over 72 holes.
Member selection committee Asad I.A.Khan said this was most youthful team ever picked after strenuous six-day trials at Karachi Golf Club and Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club.
He said during the first phase of trials in Karachi 27 holes were played in a day to test, stamina, endurance and skill of the golfers.
Asad Khan said trials proved very encouraging because of some of teenage players unearthed during talent hunt put up creditable performances in the trails.
He expressed the hope that these youngsters will prove a great prospect for the country.
