By Bushra Rafique

ISLAMABAD—International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has awarded Honorary Doctoral Degree in Islamic Economics toSenator Professor Khurshid Ahmad.
Observing that Prof. Khurshid Ahmad has been involved in the development of Islamic economics at academic, political and institutional levels around the world and that all major developments in Islamic economics have, directly or indirectly, benefitted from his guidance and activism, the University accordedhim the degree, said a press release issued here on Saturday.
At a Convocation Ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur, Prof. Khurshid Ahmad said the movement for Islamic economics does not aim at finding some space within the paradigm of conventional economics, or to become part of its matrix; it seeks the development of a new paradigm to resolve the economic problems of man from a different value perspective.
"Despite many insights and contributions, conventional economics suffers from serious flaws and consequent failures to solve thefundamental economic problems of mankind," he said.
