IT Ministry sets up body to check offensive websites
By Adnan Rafique

ISLAMABAD—Ministry of Information Technology (IT) has constituted a committee to streamline mechanism for screening and blocking websites offering objectionable and hateful material.
The committee including Secretary IT Ministry and representatives of key ministries will evaluate and examine web materials within the parameters set out in the 'Amended Telecom Act 2006'.
The committee will decide cases on merit and advice Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to take appropriate actions against the websites found to be offensive and containing anti-social and objectionable material, a press release issued by the ministry stated here Saturday.
The decision to constitute the committee to oversee obnoxious websites has been taken following a growing number of public grievances regarding objectionable and hateful material being displayed by various websites.
