"excited" after losing run ends
LONDON--Ian Bell, fresh from what he called his "best" one-day innings,
said England are excited to move on to Lord's after ending their losing
run. The first one-day international at Cardiff was washed out on
Wednesday, though England looked to be heading for another reverse when
the rainame.
The result put a halt to England's sequence of eight straight defeats in
limited overs matches, discounting the win against non-Test team
Ireland. The sequence included a 5-0 series loss to Sri Lanka in June
but now the team is ready to begin a new chapter, starting at Lord's on
Saturday. "I'm not too sure there's relief (that the defeats have
stopped), we were pretty positive about going out there and getting a
few wickets,"Bell said after scoring 88 in England's innings of 202.
"It's nice to stop the losses but it's not the way we wanted to stop
the defeats. We'll be excited to get to Lord's as we believe we can beat
Pakistan in this series." Bell's effort from 117 balls was the only
highlight in England's innings and he now looks set to cement his place
with a packed schedule of
one-day cricket approaching. England play the ICC Champions Trophy in
India, the VB Series in
Australia in the New Year and then the World Cup from March. Bell said
his innings, his highest in one-day internationals, followed
on from the three centuries he plundered in the recent Test series
against Pakistan. "I tried to carry over my form from the Test matches.
I also felt pretty good in the nets and just wanted to carry on.
"That was the best I've played in one-day cricket for England. It was
just the fact that I looked to be really positive. "Number three is
where I normally bat for Warwickshire, I'm happiest at three in one-day
cricket. It gives me that opportunity to get myself in and gradually
score quicker and quicker." |
