Supreme court
should take suo motto notice of Akbar Bugti killing, issue orders for
registration of case: APC
ISLAMABAD: All Parties Conference (APC) has held President general
Pervez Musharraf responsible for the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti and
called upon Supreme court to take suo motto notice of brutal murder
besides issuing orders for registration of murder case in this
connection. This was said by ARD chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim and
PML-N chairman Raja Zafar ul Haq while announcing the joint declaration
of APC in a joint press conference along with other leaders here
Thursday. Makhdoom Amin Fahim said it is prime demand of APC that
military operation be brought to end in Balochistan and body of Nawab
Akbar Bugti be handed over to his family members. Opposition is united
on one platform against President General Pervez Musharraf and it will
take all the decisions with mutual understanding and consultation.
General Musharraf is responsible for the sufferings of Punjabis in
Balochistan, he held. The APC took detailed review of the situation
arising out of killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti which was ordered by
President General Pervez Musharraf, Amin Fahim informed. Conference
strongly condemns this massive tragedy and terms it black step in the
political history of country, he added. Nawab Akbar Bugti was chief of
Jamhoori Watan Party, former parliamentarian, governor and chief
minister. Bugti cast his vote in favour of annexation of Balochistan to
Pakistan as member of Shahi Jirga. Fateha was offered for him in APC.
Giving details of joint declaration, he said the declaration pointed out
that President General Pervez Musharraf had already given overt threat
for targeting his political opponents in Balochistan. Nawab Akbar Bugti
was killed in a major military operation in the wake of this threat. A
jirga was held in this connection two days before the killing of Bugti.
Declaration said Akbar Bugti was traced out through satellite telephone
as per reports and was killed in a military operation. Government is
concealing the facts deliberately.
This conference realizes that Akbar Bugti killing is an extra judicial
killing, which has posed a serious threat to our federation.
Army of a democratic and sovereign nation can not even think to kill an
80 years old politician with sophisticated weapons, declaration added.
The government should tell if the parliament or cabinet had accorded
permission for military operation or it was decision of only an
individual.
APC realizes that the decisions imposed on gun point by military regimes
in the past led to dismemberment of Pakistan. General Musharraf is
repeating this process in Waziristan and Balochistan. Federation of
Pakistan has been put at stakes. The democratic forces of the country
will have to play their role for the defence of democratic culture and
federation.
The declaration said that country wide shutter down strike will be
observed today and black day will be observed to express solidarity with
the people of Balochistan and to condemn the steps being taken by
Musharraf government.
APC demands of General Musharraf to step down for his involvement in the
murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti. Body of Nawab Akbar Bugti be handed over to
his heirs for burial.
APC has also announced to stage protest rallies in front of four
provincial assemblies against the target killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti
besides expressing solidarity with the people of Balochistan.
It was decided in the conference that a joint public meeting will be
held in Quetta on September, 15 by all the opposition parties to express
solidarity with the people of Balochistan.
Raja Zafar ul Haq said we had warned six months earlier that the
military operation in Balochistan would result into dire consequences.
Mutual consultation process is underway on the question of resigning
from assemblies, he told.
Liaqat Baloch accused that the military officers are responsible for
military operation in Balochistan. The role of military dictatorship and
agencies be eliminated. MMA will decide on September 5 to quit
Balochistan coalition government.
