Tareen lauds NPIWCs performance

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Industries, Production and Special Jahangir Khan Tareen Thursday congratulated all the project directors and officials of the National Programme for improvement of Water Courses (NPIWCs) for not only achieving all the set targets but also lining up additional watercourses under the project.
He observed this while chairing a high level meeting held to observe the performance of NPIWCs, which is a special initiative of President Gen Pervez Musharraf which is coordinated by Jahangir Khan Tareen Minister for Industries and Production in the capacity of Coordinating Incharge. The programme is run by Federal and Provincial project directors through their respective governments.
Federal project director Nasir Mahmood Khosa while telling the details of the project said that NPIWCs has achieved more than the set target during two years. The target set for 2004-05 was 5,150 but NPIWCs actually over performed and was able to line 5,161 watercourses. Similarly NPIWCs lined 17,222 watercourses in 2005-06 against the set target of 15,050.
“The target set for 2006-07 is 18,000 and funds allocated are Rs. 6 billion”, he added.

All the officials working for the project have done a good job, said while chairing a meeting held here to review two-year performance of National Programme for Improvement of Water Courses.
“I congratulate and commend all the officials for this excellent performance,” he added.
The Minister assured them the government will continue to support the progrmame as it is performing well and remaining financial requirements will also be met.
Meeting was also attended by Nasir Mahmood Khosa, Federal Project Director, Pro incial Project Directors, Director Generals Water
Management and Provincial Irrigation Secretaries. The NPIWCs is a special initiative of the President General Pervez Musharraf and is coordinated by Jahangir Khan Tareen in the capacity of Coordinating Incharge.
The progrmame is run by Federal and Provincial Project Directors through their respective governments. The target set for 2004-05 was 5,150 but NPIWCs actually over performed and was able to line 5,161 watercourses.
Same is the case for year 2005-06 as 17,222 watercourses have been lined during the last two years against a target of 20,200. The target set for 2006-07 is 18,000 while funds allocated for the project under PSDP for year 2006-07 are Rs. 6 billion, Mr. Khosa further informed.
