CBR collects revenue of Rs93.1b during July-August

ISLAMABAD—Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has collected revenue of Rs. 93.1 billion in July-August 2006 against Rs. 79.5 billion during the corresponding period of the last year and surpassing the revenue target set for the period by 1.2 percent.
The provisional tax collection during July-August 2006 indicated a cumulative growth of 17.1%. This collections expected to increase further in coming days. The revenues on account of direct taxes have so far shown an increase of 19.7% by collecting Rs.19.9 billion against Rs.16.6 billion.
The sales tax collection has reached Rs.47.5 billion against Rs.38.5 billion, indicating a growth of 23.3% whereas the growth in revenue collection at sales tax import stage has been 18.1% the domestic sales tax collection has increased by 32.6%.
The tax receipts on account of excise duties has recorded an increase of 29.5%. The collection has been Rs.9.0 billion against Rs.6.9 billion in the corresponding period last year.
The revenue from customs duties has declined by 4.2% over the corresponding period of last year due to disruptions caused by rains and rail traffic between Karachi and rest of country.
The provincial collection of federal taxes for August, 2006 is Rs.46.9 billion. The figure includes Rs.9.8 & Rs.23.5 billion, respectively on accounts of direct taxes & sales tax. On the other hand, the contribution of federal excise and customs has been Rs.5.0 and Rs.8.6 billion, respectively during August, 2006.
