Rambail cruises into Frontier Cup Snooker semi-final

PESHAWAR—Top seed Rambail Gul and three other reached to the semi-finals
after recording victories against their respective rivals in the
quarter-final being played at Greens Snooker Club here on Friday.
Rambail Gul defeated Yasir Shehzad in the first semi-final by 4-1 in the
best of seven frames, Hamid Ullah upset seeded player Shah Khan by 4-2,
second seeded Arshad Khan shocked old-gun Muhammad Hussain by 4-1 and
third seeded Nouman Ahmed outclassed Khalid Khan by 4-0.
The semi-finals will be played on Saturday as Rambail Gul will face
Arshad Khan in the first semi-final while Hamid Gul will play against
Nouman Awan in the second semi-final.
During the quarter-finals President NWFP Snooker Association Qazi Laiq
was the chief guest. In his brief chat Qazi appreciated the discipline
of the players which they maintained during the championship. He said
that top six players will get automatic qualification to represent NWFP
in any national level events.
Earlier, top seed Rambail Gul exhibited excellent brand of snooker with
some perfect potting and cross-table shorts were also witnessed which
were largely enjoyed by the crowd. Rabail Gul, who earlier reached to
top 10 ranking at national level lost the first frame in the best of
seven frames quarter-finals by 33-77. But he did excellent work in the
other frames but giving no time to his young rival Yasir Shehzad and won
the battle by 55-31, 70-22, 65-34, and 66-30.
In the second quarter-final Hamid Ullah upset seeded player Shah Khan by
4-2 in the thrilling battle lasted for long three hours. Hamid Ullah won
the first frame by 76-20 but lost the second by 33-68 and against
secured victory in the third frame by 71-32 but lost the fourth frame by
23-69. It was the fifth and sixth frames in which Hamidullah controlled
his nerves by winning the battle. The score was 65-44, 70-30. In the
third quarter-final, Arshad Siddique who won the Frontier Cup in 2001,
shocked old-gun Muhammad Hussain by 4-1. The score was 68-24, 80-10,
31-56, 44-77, and 66-30. In the last quarter-final Nouman Ahmed defeated
his young opponent Khalid Khan in straight frames victory by 4-0. The
score was 67-33, 79-34, 81-10, and 72-23. |
