U-17 Hockey C’ship enters into quarter-finals stage

LAHORE—Lahore, rode on a hat trick by Muhammad Adnan, registered an impressive 7-0 win over Hafizabad to move into the quarter finals of the Punjab Inter District Youth Under-17 Hockey Championship here at National Stadium. On the fifth day of the event as many as eight matches were decided and Okara, Toba Tek Singh and Faisalabad also made to the quarter finals for which Bahawalpur has also qualified.
Lahore were two goals up at interval and Adnan staged a one man show to score three goals in a row in the second half to consolidate his teams position before Muhammad Imran scored both the goals in the first half. Subhan and Rashid shared one goal apiece in the second half. In another match Bahawalnagar scored a narrow 2-1 win against Attock as both the sides were tied at 1-1 at interval.Naveed ur Rehman gave lead to Bahawalnagar in the initial stages of play and Aftab Ahmad brought teams at par midway through the first half. Muhammad Riaz scored the match winning goal towards the fag end of the play.
Okara beat Rahim Yar Khan 3-0. After a goalless first session, Okara shot into lead through the lead of Usman Aslam. Okara were in right direction throughout the second half of play and they availed most of the chances which come across their ways. Javed doubled the lead and Sajid Hussain put the issue beyond the reach of their opponents with delightful field goal.
Pakpattan hardly defeated Khusab 1-0 before wasting ideal scoring sitters in second session specially in the last ten minutes. Kashif Islam scored the all important goal of the play in the first half before his side missed two successive short corners. Faisalabad defeated Sahiwal 3-0 before playing a empty first half. Faisalabad which struggled in the first half to blend into a attacking side, however, returned with greater zeal in the second half, giving no space to their rivals to avoid their wrath.
Rizwan shone with a rousing display of forceful sprints and accurate shooting to hammer two goals in a row for the much surprise of their opponents who were not expecting that sort of treatment. Muhammad Zaman completed the tally, five minutes before the close of play. Layyah surprised a much strong opponent Rawalpindi 2-0. After a barren first half, both the sides started a fight for gaining supremacy. Layyah stamped their supremacy through Faraz Ahmad and Gulfam enlarged it.
