HEC provides modern library facilities to Mehran University
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD—Higher Education Commission (HEC) Monday decided to enrich the
Central Library and online information centre at Mehran University of
Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro with latest equipment.
The major objective of the project is not only to enhance quality
education by providing a comfortable and peaceful reading atmosphere for
the library users but also to provide books, research
journals/periodicals, on various topics related to engineering and basic
science subjects. The project will also provide microfilm, microfiche
and other modern facilities for storage of old research journals
periodicals, reports and documents and on-line retrieval facilities for
literature search within and outside the country.
The project also contains procurement facilities for the purchase of
books and journals for the library users who otherwise find it difficult
to do so on there own particularly from foreign countries. The project
also aims at establishing liaison with other libraries in the country
particularly with those in educational institutions for obtaining copies
of publications needed by the users but not available in the library,
sharing the facilities particularly for providing expensive research
publications from abroad and form temporary loaning/borrowing of rare
and expensive books and documents for research purposes.
Through the project lecture cum audiovisual room for group discussion,
checking the presentation material, recording/filming or
lectures/lesions/demonstration materials of interest to professionals'
engineers and the students would also be provided. Presently, there was
a small library building of 7,000-sq. ft. area, which was constructed
about 30 years ago and has limited facilities. This library could not
fulfill the present and the growing requirements of university students
in sixteen technologies. |
