Eight Afghan troops killed in Taliban attack

PESHAWAR—Eight Afghan troops have been killed and six others sustained serious injuries in an attack by Taliban in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan. Taliban Friday attacked a convoy of Afghan army on Kabul-Jalalabad highway. When the convoy reached near Reeshan Tangi, Taliban from nearby mountains started indiscriminate firing with machine guns and klashinvokovs, in which eight troops were died on the spot, while six sustained serious injuries.
Chief of Nangarhar police Sher Shah Yousafzai narrowly escaped the attacked. Spokesman for Taliban Mohammad Hanif has accepted the responsibility for attack. From undisclosed location, he told local newsmen that they would step up such attacks on Afghan and foreign troops.
Meanwhile, four children were killed in a landmine blast in Qandahar. The children were playing in nearby fields when the explosion occurred. Similarly a Romanian activist of arms collection organization, CRT was also killed in a landmine explosion in Khost near Pak-Afghan border.—INP
