Composite
talks ripe to yield results: Kasuri
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD—Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri Thursday expressed
the hope that the third round of composite dialogue with India due to
start in January next year would be more result oriented and helpful in
finding a peaceful solution to the lingering Kashmir dispute.
Talking to the media here at a reception hosted by Senator Mushahid
Hussain Sayed in honour of Bangladesh Parliamentary delegation, the
Foreign Minister said flexibility on the issue of Kashmir should be from
both the sides.
He said Pakistan remains committed to its principled stand that the
Kashmir issue should be resolved according to the aspirations and wishes
of the Kashmiris and solution should be acceptable to both Pakistan and
India.
The Foreign Minister said that the third round of talks with India would
be better than the previous two rounds. He said that talks with India
during the last two years showed progress in improving relations between
the two countries and people-to-people contact have been enhanced.
Now efforts should be made that these relations are further strengthened
so that the process is not derailed by any small event or happening, he
said. The Minister said due to peace in the region, the trade has also
improved although it is still in favour of India.
He said Pakistan was making sincere efforts that there should be level
playing field to promote bilateral trade with India so that the people
from both the countries could draw equal benefit. Replying to a question
about opening of five crossing points across the Line of Control in
Kashmir, he said, Pakistan wanted to have free movement of Kashmiris
across these points on daily basis instead of the present weekly
movement. He said this LoC opening has also reduced the tension in the
region.
