Report on proposed amendments in Hudood Laws ready for approval, says Nilofer

ISLAMABAD—Advisor to Prime Minister Nilofar Bakhtiar said Thursday a report on the proposed amendments to the Hudood laws would be presented to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in four days.
Besides bringing about desired changes in the laws the amendments would be helpful in further improving the image of the country in comity of nations, she told reporters.
Earlier Nilfoar Bakhtiar spoke at a function held here to appreciate the services being rendered by volunteers, philanthropists and humanitarian groups for rehabilitation of the victims of October 8 earthquake.
She praised the valuable services and underscored the need to keep the same zeal as a lot of work was still to be done to bring life back to normal in the quake devastated areas.
Talking to the media she said that on the directives of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz the Law Ministry and the Ministry of Women Development were jointly working to prepare the report on Haded Laws.
The Advisor said the draft amendments would be finalized after eliciting views of people from all segments of the society so that a consensus was evolved and rights of women were better protected.m, I hope so," she said when asked if these amendments would be enacted during her stay in public office.
She said the Haded laws in the present form had a number of flaws that made it difficult for an accused woman to defend herself against allegations.
To an other question about a news report that 10 Pakistani women unaccompanied by male members were seen begging in Jeddah, she said these women had been brought back safely.
Nilofar Bakhtiar also told the media that she would run for the Senate on one of the seats due to fall vacant after half of the members of the upper house retire before March 13 in accordance with the constitution. I will be a candidate in the Senate elections" she said.
