Cabinet seeks consensus on new dams

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Wednesday said that the Federal Cabinet has decided to remove the apprehensions of certain elements about the construction of new water reservoirs in the country. The construction of new reservoirs is a national issue and this would be undertaken after removing the apprehensions of certain elements, he said while briefing the media following a Federal Cabinet meeting.
Prime Minister Shaukat chaired the cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister House here. Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said President Pervez Musharraf would visit Sindh province for consultations with those elements who have apprehensions.
Later, he said, the President would announce a clear-cut policy on the subject. The Cabinet was also given a presentation on the need for additional water reservoirs by the Ministry of Water and Power, he said. The Prime Minister while stressing the need for having more water reservoirs said that in order to save agriculture and ensure adequate supply of water “we must move forward quickly to build more water reservoirs”.
