23 killed as bus plunges into ravine

MUZAFFARABAD—At least 23 people including three women and a baby girl were killed on Tuesday near Chinari in Azad Kashmir when a passenger bus carrying villagers plunged into a deep ravine, police said. According to details, a bus coming from Gujarbandi, a mountainous town,while negotiating a turn, fell into a deep ravine (150 feet), along the river Jhelum near Chinari, some 57 km from Muzaffarabad Tuesday morning. As a result, 23 passengers were killed and another 25 sustained multiple injuries.The injured were shifted to different hospitals. Police said, so far 20 bodies have been recovered from the crash site and it was feared that another three passengers had been swept away by the strong currents of the River Jhelum. Most of the passengers were hailing from Gujarbandi and surrounding villages. The dead were identified as Muhammed Hussain, Ayub Shah, Mehboob Shah, Mutwali Khan, Abdurashid, Muhammed Khan Kiani, Ajeaib Kiani, Altaf Kiani, Bashir Ahmed Kiani, Abdul Kabir, Abdur Rashid son of Zaman, Robina Bibi and her infant daughter.
