By Hina Kiyani

ISLAMABAD—The Federal minister for education, Javed Ashraf Qazi has said that government is doing its best to keep its educational policy afoot with international standards.
Talking to an award ceremony of students who achieved best results in the recent exams on Tuesday he said that Pakistan's educational system needs to be revamped. He cited out various aspects of the system, which lacked severely in acceptable standards.
Among the major steps to be introduced, increase in bonus award for teachers to be raised from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000. Similarly the students with best positions would be awarded Rs 15,000 instead of Rs 10,000.
He said that to enhance the deteriorating infrastructure of the education sector the government has decided to allocate 4% of GDP for education. Special emphasis has been laid on IT and Science & Technology, to surpass the neighbouring India whose IT exports outnumber Pakistan by an enormous margin. Vocational colleges would be established, he underscored.
He said that in order to discourage the rote system of examinations, new and radical syllabus would be introduced, containing an option of multiple choices.
He said that any subject matter encouraging extremism and sectarianism ideals would be expunged. The minister said each province would have a single Board of Education, and a uniform schedule of exams. The annual exams would be held in April/ May and results would be announced in the middle of August. The next annual session would begin at the end of August.
