MMA for provincial consensus over KBD

ISLAMABAD—MMA has urged the government to take the provinces into confidence ahead of construction of Kalabagh dam saying in camera briefing be given to the parliament on this issue. “MMA supreme council is of opinion that water reservoirs should be constructed. However, consent of all the provinces be obtained ahead of building of this dam. Such situation be not created, which poses any threat to federation. Parliament be given in camera briefing in this connection. It is our proposal that site of dam be changed”, said MMA central leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman while addressing a press conference after religious grouping supreme council meeting here Monday. He termed Kalabagh dam a technical issue adding that it should not be made a political issue. “We hope Punjab will take care of smaller provinces”, he stressed. He told that Jamiat Ulema Islam (Senior) group will now represent in supreme council in place of Maulana Sami ul Haq who is now expelled from this party. New president of JUI-S Pir Abdul Rahim Naqshbandi will now represent this group in supreme council, he added. JUI’s proposal on attending or other wise national security council session has been presented in supreme council, he pointed out.—Online
