ISLAMABAD—MMA has urged the government to take the provinces into
confidence ahead of construction of Kalabagh dam saying in camera
briefing be given to the parliament on this issue. “MMA supreme council
is of opinion that water reservoirs should be constructed. However,
consent of all the provinces be obtained ahead of building of this dam.
Such situation be not created, which poses any threat to federation.
Parliament be given in camera briefing in this connection. It is our
proposal that site of dam be changed”, said MMA central leader Maulana
Fazlur Rehman while addressing a press conference after religious
grouping supreme council meeting here Monday. He termed Kalabagh dam a
technical issue adding that it should not be made a political issue. “We
hope Punjab will take care of smaller provinces”, he stressed. He told
that Jamiat Ulema Islam (Senior) group will now represent in supreme
council in place of Maulana Sami ul Haq who is now expelled from this
party. New president of JUI-S Pir Abdul Rahim Naqshbandi will now
represent this group in supreme council, he added. JUI’s proposal on
attending or other wise national security council session has been
presented in supreme council, he pointed out.—Online |
