Decision taken at top level to build KBD
PM to convene APC to evolve consensus

ISLAMABAD—Decision to build Kalabagh dam has been taken in principle in the high level meeting held here Thursday with President General Pervez Musharraf in the chair and formal announcement in this regard however will be made after reviewing what role political parties play on this issue.
This was disclosed by well placed sources to Online here. This issue will be put to debate in senate, national assembly and provincial assemblies, sources added. President, ministers and PML leadership will hold public meetings, conferences and seminars on this issue.
Sources privy to President informed that President wanted to make announcement about construction of Kalabagh dam ahead of proceeding to attend OIC conference. However he postponed the announcement after consultation with some PML leaders. Now public opinion has to be mobilized only. Therefore, opposition will be given in camera briefing. The strategy has also been evolved in Thursday’s meeting to deal with those whosoever will make any announcement to oppose this dam.
President Pervez Musharraf has assigned special task to Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Farooq Leghari in this connection.
Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has informed Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is set to soon convene All Parties Conference (APC) to take opposition into confidence in line with construction of major water reservoirs including controversial Kalabagh dam.
“Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz will soon convene APC and the opposition will be given in-camera briefing,” Sheikh Rashid told these in his chat with media-people here Thursday.
