Lost star Rodriguez pays traffic tickets
From Sara Hall
NEW
YORK—Michelle Rodriguez’s fast and furious driving is taking its toll on
her bank account. The Lost star, who is currently awaiting trial on a
drunken driving charge, settled a pair of traffic cases stemming from
speeding violations. Rodriguez was fined $357 on Tuesday after her
lawyer entered a no-contest plea on her behalf. The actress, who plays
trigger-happy police officer Ana-Lucia on the hit ABC drama, had been
cited for driving 83 mph in a 55 mph zone in Oahu on Nov. 1.
Rodriguez, who is apparently afflicted with a bit of a lead-foot, also
paid a $300 fine for an earlier speeding citation she received for going
90 mph in a 35 mph zone on Oct. 20. She previously ponied up $197 for
going 80 mph in a 50 mph zone on Aug. 24. Earlier this month, the Blue
Crush actress and fellow Lost star Cynthia Watros were pulled over
within 15 minutes of each other and cited for drunk driving.
The actresses paid $500 bail each are expected back in court on Dec. 29.
It’s not the first time Rodriguez’s questionable driving skills have
gotten her into trouble. She previously pleaded no contest to three
misdemeanours—a hit and run, driving with a suspended license and
driving under the influence—stemming from two separate incidents that
occurred in Los Angeles back in 2003.
She was sentenced to 48 hours in jail, community service and treatment
in a 30-day alcohol program, as well as three years of probation. In
fact, Rodriguez’s earlier legal troubles may come back to haunt her in
her current DUI case. The Los Angeles City Attorney’s office is
investigating whether the actress’ recent arrest violated the terms of
her probation.
If the L.A. City Attorney determines that Rodriguez did, in fact,
violate her probation, the office could hold a probation revocation
hearing and the actress could face the maximum penalty of six months in
jail on each of her previous three charges. To be fair, Rodriguez isn’t
the only Lost star to have difficulty observing the Hawaiian rules of
the road.
Besides Rodriguez and Watros, five other members of the cast have been
pulled over by police and issued citations—four of them for speeding,
according to the Honolulu Star Bulletin. Josh Holloway (Sawyer) was
pulled over Sept. 21 and ticketed for allegedly going 53 mph in a 35 mph
zone. |
