KBD issue aimed at inter-provincial rift, says Qazi

KARACHI—The MMA notable and President, Qazi Hussain Ahmad has accused Musharraf government of trying to use the Kalabagh Dam issue for deliberately creating inter-provincial rift to divert the attention of masses from real-time issues.
Speaking to journalists at the Welfare office of “Idara-Noor Haq”, after dispatching truckloads of goods for quake victims, he severely castigated the government for its untimely deliberation of such a thorny issue as Kalabagh Dam, whence the entire nation was facing an unpleasant situation of earthquake crisis and an uphill task of rehabilitation of affectees. He considered such a move as anti-country.
Replying to the question as to whether the Province of Punjab would cause the downfall of any ruler who dared to refuse the construction of the KBD, he replied that this was a deliberate move on behalf of President Musharraf to create inter-provincial strife, which would help him prolong his arbitrary rule.
Replying to another question he said that government was not creating any hurdles for the relief activities of the party. He said that in the second phase of relief services the party was planning for rehabilitation of the affectees. The current truckloads of relief included these goods specially imported from Dubai.
These included, 40,000 steel sheets, sleeping kits, and quilts. These relief goods amounted to about Rs. 1.45 crore. He said that JI would continue relief and rehabilitation efforts until the affectees are able to stand their ground. He said that the JI was endeavoring to rehabilitate the affectees on permanent basis; hence it is also building mosques and other vital structures.—Online
