Govt determined to eradicate corruption: PM

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that National Accountability Bureau was rational institution and the government expected it to continue its campaign against corruption without fear or favour. He stated this while talking to the Chairman NAB, Lt. Gen (Retd) Shahid Aziz, who called on him at the prime Minister House on Tuesday.
Prime Minister said that government attaches great importance to eradicating corruption as good governance is not possible without transparent formulation and implementation of policies. The Chairman NAB brief the Prime Minister of the performance of the NAB and assured him that the process of accountability will be carried forward in an impartial and fair manner.
Meanwhile Chairman Senate Muhammad Mian Soomro called on Prime Minister and discussed with him Parliamentary calendar of the senate, over all political situation of the country and other matter of professional importance. Commenting on the need of build more reservoirs, Prime Minister said that being a water scarce country, Pakistan need to have proactive polices to ensure adequate availability of water reservoirs in the country. He said that government would take the finale decision in this regard in consultation with a stakeholders.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Tuesday said wide ranging structural reforms and continuity and consistency in economic policies were the key to high growth trajectory and raising standard of living of the people. Talking to a four-member ING delegation headed by Mike Ferrer, Regional General Manager, which called on him at the Prime Minister House.
He said liberalization, de-regulation and privatization from major planks of our economic policies, which are geared to attract and promote investment. He said the government believes in providing a level playing field to investors, local as well as foreign.
The group informed the Prime Minister that it was setting up a joint venture with a Pakistani company as they felt comfortable with the present economic environment and opportunities available in Pakistan.
The group also expressed satisfaction over the reforms undertaken by Pakistan during the last six years and liberal investment environment and said their presence would further professionalize asset management in Pakistan. A cheque of 100,000 Euros was also presented to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz for the President’s Relief Fund by a four-member delegation of ING Group.
