Telecom operators urged to expand service networks

ISLAMABAD—Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Maj. General (Retd) Shahzada Alam Malik has urged the operators to expand the network of their services to meet the growing contemporary needs.
“Telecommunications growth can be enhanced further by introducing new technologies and expansion of infrastructure,” he said while addressing the second day session of the Pakistan Telecommunication Conference 2005 as the chief guest here on Tuesday.
He emphasized that to cater to the fast evolving needs of telecommunications sector we require more telecom engineers and latest technologies and it is an urgent need to bring latest technology in Pakistan market. He further said that one million people of the country were subscribing monthly and operators have to expand the networks accordingly so that they could fulfill this demand.
“There is a need to bring latest technology in market of the country to meet the current needs,” he added.
He said that Pakistan is an active member of international telecom fora and it is an elected member of International Telecom Union (ITU) has recently elected president of Asia Pacific Telecommunication (APT).
“We encourage all regional bodies on telecommunications and participate in their activities and can also find ways to cooperate with SAMENA Telecom Council, a Dubai based regional telecom organization,” he said.
