Govt focusing on improvement of health facilities in Pindi: Rashid
By Saad Ahmad
RAWALPINDI—Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh
Rashid Ahmed Saturday said we have achieved our target of setting up
better education institutions in Rawalpindi and now we will focus on
provision of basic health facilities to the inhabitants of the city.
Addressing the second annual convocation of Government Girls Degree
College Dhok Hasoo here, he said government is determined to bring a
revolution in all schools and colleges of downtown areas of the city.
"Being a local leader, it is my duty to improve the condition of the
city. As far as I am concerned I did not have good education facilities
and that is why I could not get higher education. I use to sell books
right in front of the Lal Haveli and I could not forget my past. But it
is also my desire that every child of the city should have better
facilities to accomplish his or her dreams," he added.
He said this college will go a long way in achieving my desire of
educating the female segment of the society.
He said female institutes have helped improve the ratio of girl
students, as it has jumped to 137 percent while the level of boys has
dropped down, which is disappointing.
"I will also prove it wrong that we can only get skilled workers from
downtown areas. Now with the establishment of better education
institutions the condition and fate of these areas will change," he
hoped.
He said from now on our focus will be on provision of better health
facilities to the people of the city and for this purpose we are going
to set up two hospitals in Dhok Hasoo and Eidgah Road and all latest
machines will be available at these hospitals.
Sheikh Rashid also awarded degrees, certificates and gold medals among
the successful students of session 2002-2005. He also announced two
years extension in the service term of college principal Nighat Akmal
besides giving Rs 10,000 each to six honorary teachers and assured them
that they will be paid well in near future.
Earlier in her opening address college Principal Nighat Akmal shed light
on the performance and problems faced by the college staff. |
