President, PM reaffirm committment for safeguarding Human Rights
ISLAMABAD—Government of Pakistan is committed to create a society free
of human sufferings and deprivation envisaging the elimination of
poverty and injustice, safeguarding human dignity, establishing the rule
of law, guarantying the fundamental freedom to all citizens by making
them masters of their own dignity, creating a balance between the rights
of individuals and their responsibilities resulting in promotion of
tolerance and harmony.
President General Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and
Federal Minister for Law and Justice Wasi Zafar stated this in their
messages on the occasion of International human rights day being
observed on Saturday (today).
President said in his message that the international human rights day
marks the event to reiterate their firm commitment to the implementation
of the universal declaration of human rights and all the people
collectively as well as individually rededicate themselves to the
promotion and protection of human rights. "We must pledge to broaden the
horizons of human consciousness by making renewed efforts to promote a
culture of respect for human rights, tolerance, diversity and
pluralism," president added.
President said that Islam teaches the deep respect for rights of all
human beings and enjoins the eternal values of equal rights, social
justice and peace and banishes discrimination of the basis of class,
colour, or creed.
President maintained that it was essential for all of us to create a
salutary environment for human rights through social and economic
empowerment of all segments of our societies especially those vulnerable
and marginalized. "Our national and global priorities include
alleviation of poverty and education for all and I believe that
achievement of these goals is a shared responsibility of all communities
and nations and we should work together towards the realization of civil
and political rights as well as economic, social and political rights,"
president said.
He said that Pakistan had focused on human rights as an essential part
of the national discourse and enhanced dialogue on this subject with
international community and human rights machinery."To banish the clash
between different civilizations and religions, I have propounded a
concept of enlightened moderation which has been endorsed and espoused
by the organization of the Islamic conference and commended by world
leaders and institutions," president added.
Prime Minister said in his message said that the international human
rights day marks the recognition of human respect and dignity as the
whole world commemorates the adoption of the universal declaration of
human rights by united nations in 1948.
Premier said that this year thousand precious lives of people were lost
and huge number of people in NWFP and AJK sustained injuries due to the
worst tragedy caused by earthquake on Oct 8 and response of people of
Pakistan and international community was quick and commendable. "The
first and most comprehensive charter of human rights was the last sermon
of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) on the occasion of Huja-tul-Widah and all
subsequent charters and legal instruments relating to human rights are
actually a production of the contents of the sermon," premier added.—APP |
