NWFP wins Inter-Provincial U-17 Taekwondo C’ship

PESHAWAR—Young Yasir Shah (15) and Suleman Khan (13) guided NWFP to grab the trophy after securing 62 points in the Inter-Provincial Under-17 Taekwondo Championship played at PSB National Sports Training and Coaching Center here Thursday.
Yasir Shah and Suleman, the two upcoming players recorded thrilling victory in three consecutive fights of fin weight and feather weights to win gold medal which enabled NWFP to take first position in the presence of giant Punjab team.
It is for the first time in the history of the game that NWFP won the trophy, said Pakistan team coach Murtaza Hasan, who actually trained the team. Murtaza Hasan is currently associated with Pakistan team as coach in the on going camp at Islamabad. Murtaza lauded the efforts of the
provincial team for exhibiting much disciplined fights. He hoped that national team would give good performance in the forthcoming SAF Games to be held at Sri Lanka next year.
NWFP took three gold medals in Fin, feather and light weights and recorded 62 points, followed by Punjab with 47 points with two gold medals in fly weight and Bantam weight. Balochistan got third position by winning one silver and one bronze medal. Balochistan got 38 points.
FATA remained at fourth with 21 points by winning three bronze medals and Islamabad got fifth position with 17 points by taking one silver and one bronze medal. Gilgit took sixth position by winning one silver medal in bantam weight.
At the end, Director General NWFP Sports Board Maazullah Khan, who was the chief guest on this occasion, gave away medals and certificates to the players. The teams ofludPunjab, Balochistan, Islamabad, FATA, Northern Areas and host NWFP participated in two-day Championship.
