PTCL employees’ termination matter referred to senate body

ISLAMABAD—Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain has handed over the matter of termination of contract employees of PTCL to Senate Standing Committee for Information and Technology on the unremitting demand of government and opposition leaders.
This matter was taken over on the call attention notice of Member PPP Naheed Khan, which was supported by other members of the House and opposition leaders on Tuesday.
Speaker NA ordered that a report in this regard be presented before the house within 30 days.
State Minister for Communication Ali Asjad Malhi said that the women who were terminated were on three to six months contract whereas no regular employees of PTCL has been terminated.
He said that the present government has regularized 8,000 contract employees and in the past, no government has taken such a step to regularize so many employees. He further told the House that up to now 360 contract employees of PTCL have been terminated after formal conclusion of their respective contracts. Approximately 67,000 employees are performing their duties in PTCL. On the other hand Member Parliament Sardar Tufail and Begum Tehmina Dasti has said the matter of termination of contract employees of PTCL hasbeen handed over to Senate Standing Committee for Information and Technology for the solution of the problem. MMA Farid Paracha told the House that this is totally unfair to fire the employees who are working on contract basis.
MNA Syed Naveed Qamar added that at the time of privatization of PTCL, employees were assured that they will not be terminated however without any solid reason the employees of PTCL have been terminated. Taking notice of the matter, Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain has handed over the matter of termination of contract employees of PTCL to Senate Standing Committee for Information and Technology for probe.—Online
