KBD a controversial issue, says Arbab

KARACHI—Sindh Chief Minister, Arbab Ghulam Rahim disclosed Monday that
“All Parties Conference” is being convened to evolve a consensus on
construction of the Kalabagh dam issue. “Construction of Kalabagh dam is
a controversial issue and both President General Pervez Musharraf and
Prime Minister, Shaukat Aziz have decided to convene an All Parties
Conference on the issue at the federal level”, Sindh Chief Minister,
Arbab Ghulam Rahim told newsmen after the session of the Sindh Assembly
was adjourned.
However, he did not disclose the date for convening of the APC, adding
the federal government would announce the date for convening of the APC.
Arbab regretted that both Pakistan People Party Parliamentarians and
Pakistan Muslim League-N have adopted doubled standard on the Kalabagh
dam, adding in Punjab both the parties supported the construction of the
dam but in Sindh these parties are against the construction of the dam.
Giving his point of view on the Kalabagh dam, he said his party had been
against its construction in the past and still he was sticking to the
same stance, adding, the recent unanimous adopted resolution in Sindh
Assembly rejecting the dam was an ample proof of our stand. He said
there was absolutely not need to adopt a fresh resolution discarding the
dam as it would not affect the issue.
Lashing out the PPP in Sindh Assembly he said, the party has adopted
unparliamentarily posture, impending its smooth functioning and
hindering holding of discussions on important issues.
Online adds: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Deputy Parliamentary leader
Farooq Sattar has said that Kalabagh Dam (KBD) should not be constructed
without evolving consensus among provinces. Talking to a private TV
channel on Monday, Mr Sattar said that All Parties Conference (APC) must
be convened for building Kalabagh Dam because provinces have
reservations on it. He noted that there was no change in MQM’s stance
regarding the construction of Kalabagh Dam. |
