No hasty decision on KBD: Premier

KARACHI—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has reiterated that all the
provinces will be taken into confidence on construction of all water
reservoirs including Kalabagh dam. He said this while talking to
representatives of Sindhi media here Sunday in state guest house. He
told that all the decisions on building water reservoirs will be taken
in line with aspirations of all segments of society. No haste will be
shown in the construction of water reservoirs, he added.
He informed that reports of all the committees including ANG Abbasi led
committee report with regard to water reservoirs would be made public
and be distributed soon among Sindhi, Urdu and English media. Kotri
barrage downstream review report has been received and action on it will
be taken soon, he remarked. Water reservoirs are imperative for the
country. In future if not today, the reservoirs are urgently needed, he
observed. Water reservoirs in a smaller number are existing in the
country and due to which we would have to face severe difficulties in
future, he cautioned.
Government is listening to the stance of every one on water reservoirs,
he said adding we want to resolve the problems facing people of Sindh.
We want to take them into confidence as per their wishes. Government has
kicked off contact campaign with people, he told. Meanwhile, he lauded
the spirit and courage of the nation demonstrated during the
catastrophic October 8 tragedy. He also lauded MQM’s and Fire Brigade’s
efforts in rescue of the quake affectees. Sindh Governor Ishrat-ul-Ibad
and the Parliamentary leader of MQM Farooq Sattar along with other high
ranking provincial officials also accompanied Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said no hasty decision will be made on
construction of large water reservoirs. He was talking with
representatives of Sindhi media on Sunday at the state guest house here.
The Prime Minister said that the reports submitted by all committees
regarding building of water reservoirs including A G N Abbasi committee
report will be brought before the people.
