Norwegian PM due in Capital
ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister of Norway Jeans Stoltenberg will visit Pakistan
this week to promote Pak-Norway relations and enhance trade ties. The
Norwegian Prime Minister will arrive on December 5 for a three day visit
to Pakistan. He will also visit different earthquake hit areas in
Balakot and Ghari Habibullah to review the relief and rehabilitation
activities.
He will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on various
issues including trade while the two countries will also sign agreements
on this occasion to further strengthen their relations in various
fields. Formal welcome ceremony for the visiting Prime Minister will be
held at the Prime Minister House here when he arrives to meet Prime
Minister Shaukat Aziz for formal bilateral talks.
Norway has already pledged 23 million dollars for the help of earthquake
affected people besides sending relief through many international
organizations.
The Norwegian Red Cross has sent 100 bed field hospital along with 30
doctors and nurses, 40 trucks for mountainous terrain (which were
airlifted), NOK 70 million (US$ 11 M) collected from private sector
donors. Norwegian Church has sent 559 tents and 11,000 blankets while
rescue and search teams have also come from Norway.—APP
