40,000 shelter homes constructed at quake-hit areas

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Army Engineers teams have constructed around 30,000 shelter houses for the quake-survivors in the devastated areas of NWFP and Azad Kashmir.In addition to it, the people of District Bagh have constructed around 10,000 shelter houses on self-help basis.
Over 520 construction teams of 10 men each of Pakistan Army Engineers constructed shelter homes with the help of CGI Sheets and wooden frames in earthquake affected areas. In the surrounding areas of Muzaffarbad 26 teams constructed 622 shelters homes while another 44 teams constructed 599 shelter homes in Neelum Valley.
In Jhelum Valley 55 teams have been able to make 1961 shelters with the help of CGI sheets and wooden material which will protect the locals from harsh weather during sever winters. In Bagh 50 teams have made 11,102 shelters with integratedefforts of Army Engineers, Infantry troops, and volunteers who have reached in the areas from different parts of the country.
In Gari Dupatta 1,349 shelters have been constructed while inRawalakot, Haveli, Dhirkot area some 2,337 shelters have been made for the needy people.Troops of Army Engineers are working there day in and day out inaffected areas of NWFP as well where 922 shelter homes at Shankiari, 297 at Balakot, 2,722 in Battagram and 1,245 in Shawal Najaf.
US Engineers troops have also completed 21 shelters in Miani Bandi area. Around 99,500 CGI sheets have been shifted so far to affected areas which are being used for construction of these shelter homes while another 74,509 CGI sheets would reach soon in these areas.
A ferry service has also been started at Patika by Army Engineers for commuters convenance.
