Wapda dominates 1st day of National Weightlifting

ISLAMABAD—Wapda lifters grabbed all but one of the four gold medals on
the opening day of two-day 28th Quaid-e-Azam National Ranking
Weightlifting Tournament at Pakistan Sports Complex on Tuesday. Wapda
won gold medals through the efforts of Ishtiaq Ghafoor (62 kg), Jawwad
Sarwar Cheema (69 kg) and International Muhammad Irfan Islam (77 kg).
The fourth gold medal of the day went to Abdullah Ghafoor of Punjab, who
won 56 kg category. The winners of all weight categories are currently
attending the national camp, preparing for 18th Commonwealth Games, 10th
South Asian Games and 12th Asian Games — all three events to be held
next year.
Brig. Arif Mehmud Siddiqui, Director General, Pakistan Sports Board, was
the chief guest on the opening day. Competitions in weight categories of
85, 94, 105 and over-105 kg will be held on Wednesday. Wapda won gold
