Draw to decide fate of 50 Senators

ISLAMABAD—Election Commission of Pakistan may hold draws during first week of December to ascertain the fate of fifty senators, who will complete six years term and as many of them who will retire after three years by March 12 next year. The Election Commission after holding the draws, would start the process of holding elections to the vacant seats.This process would be completed by March 11, the third year of the Upper House would complete. The EC would start the process of Senate elections by early January which would be completed in the first week of March when elections on fifty Senate seats would be held.The newly elected senators would take oath of their office on March 12. It may be mentioned here that each of the four provincial assemblies elect 22 Senate members from their respective provinces which include 14 on general seats, four on seats reserved for technocrats including Ulema and four on seats reserved for women. Four members i.e. two on general seats, one technocrat including religious scholar and one woman are elected from the Federal Capital whereas eight members are elected from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
