become Punjab Football Champs
LAHORE—Faisalabad outclassed Sargodha 4-1 in the final of NBP Punjab
Inter-District Football Championship at Punjab Stadium here on Monday.
Punjab Football Association’s President and Provincial Agriculture
Minister Muhammad Arshad Khan Lodhi who is also Secretary General of
Pakistan Football Federation, was chief guest of the final played
between top two teams of six-match league.
He awarded winning trophy to skipper Imran Farooq ofFaisalabad while
captain of Sargodha had to content with runners-up trophy. Speaking on
the occasion,Arshad Lodhi praised the effort of NBP President Syed Ali
Raza for sponsoring the six-day event. NBP’s regional business chief
Chaudhry Kamran Amin Chattha,Director-General,Punjab Sports
Board,Munawar Abbas, Director,Punjab Sports Board,Khawar Shah were also
present on the occasion.
Under the managership of Khalid Mehmood and coaching of Munawar
Hussain,Faisalabad gave no room to rivals and build up 3-0 lead by
interval.
Skilful midfielder Muhammad Afzal stunned Sargodha with 30-meter long
range drive in the 33rd second to record fastest goal of the event.
He also struck second goal in the 22nd minute by beating onrushing
keeper Nasir Gill.Hardly 90 seconds had elapsed, striker Asif Baloch put
Faisalabad 3-0 ahead with sweetly-timed shot on right corner.
Sargodha pulled back through stopper Sabir Ali in the 60th minute who
went through to make it 1-3. Asif Baloch completed the rout in the 85th
minute with his second goal, pushing the rebound in that came his way
after ricocheted off right post. The final match was supervised by Rauf
Bari under Match Commissioner Yunus Kiani while Shahid Rasheed, Arif
Naseem acted as Assistant Referees.—Online |
