30 militants surrender after accord

MIRAN SHAH—Tribal elders of the militancy-plagued orth Waziristan Agency (NWA) on Monday handed over some 30 wanted men to the political administration following their alleged links with the Al-Qaeda and Taliban remnants.
In this connection a peace agreement was inked between head of the agency Political Administration Zahir-ul-Islam and a grand Jirga comprised 120 elders of Dawar, Wazir and Utmanzai tribes of NWA.
As per BBC report, tribal notables promised that they would not make any relation or contacts with the Al-Qaeda or Taliban remnants in future while on the other hand political administration also assured them that government would not take any action against them.
Those who were handed over to the government including JUI Amir Maulana Dindar, Sharifullah, Abdul Rehman and Maulana Salim Gul and score others whose names could not be ascertained. The agreement reached between government and tribal elders following hectic efforts by Parliamentarians Naik Muhammad and other leading notables of the area.—Online
