PTA finalizes arrangements for APT meetings

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has finalized all arrangements to host Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) Meetings from November 30 here at Islamabad.
Mr.Yoshio Utsumi , the Secretary General, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the organ of UN on telecommunication, will arrive in the capital on November 29 while the Executive Director, APT Mr.Amrandera Narayan has already reached here to coordinate the meeting arrangements.
So far PTA, the host of these Meetings, has received confirmation from 28 participating countries and more than 100 to 125 delegates are expected to attend these meetings being held first time in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Pakistan delegation has been formed who would participate in the APT Sessions. The delegation would be lead by Member (Telecom), Ministry of Information Technology while Member (Technical) PTA, senior officials of Ministry of Information Technology, PTA, PTCL and representatives of other government and private organizations are members of the delegation.
PTA has made comprehensive arrangements to host the General Assembly and Management Committee Meetings of APT being held from November 30 here at Islamabad. It may be mentioned that the 10th session of the General Assembly, which is the supreme organ of the APT, would be held from November 30 to December 2, 2005. Organized once in three years, the General Assembly (GA) meeting is being held in Pakistan for the first time. The GA focuses on establishing general policies to achieve the objectives of the telecommunity.
The Management Committee (MC) of APT meets once a year to pursue the policies and principles and approve the budget of the General Assembly of the APT. It would be held from December 5 to 8. Pakistan is Administrative member of APT.
The agenda of the General Assembly meeting includes election of the President and two vice Presidents of APT for next term and consideration of APT Strategic Plan for 2006-08.
