8th October quake destroyed 70% houses in Murree

MURREE—The residents of Potah Shairf and many other villages including Pagwari, Ghail, Dewal Sharif, Ausia in Tehsil Murree have demanded of the government to compensate them for the damages they incurred in the October 8 earthquake that destroyed their houses.
According to residents the devastated quake played havoc in tehsil Murree where more than 70 per cent houses were damaged. The people are compelled to live in open sky as some of the houses totally collapsed in Union Council 53 Potah Sharif.
The local in Potah Sharif said that the area having 300 houses was severely affected from the earthquake in which three persons died. Most of the houses collapsed, the residents told inp here on Saturday.
Waqas Ahmad Abbasi, a resident of Potah Shairf said that his house totally collapsed and all his family was compelled to live in open sky despite severe winter. He demanded of the government to provide relief assistance only for the construction of houses in the area just like that of NWFP and AJK. "Yes I know that more deaths occurred in NWFP and AJK but our houses were also destroyed here," he added. "Our all items were buried under the rubble."
Mohammad Riaz another resident said he has 11 members family, which is fighting against severe cold as his house collapsed in the earthquake.—INP
