Opposition’s gesture hailed in Senate
By Asim Hussain

ISLAMABAD—Treasury benches on Wednesday appreciated opposition parties participation in Parliamentary Committee constituted by Prime Minister to review rehabilitation and reconstruction process in earthquake affected areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP. Senator Kamil Ali Agha drew the attention of the Chair towards this gesture of the opposition parties and congratulated them for shunning differences for the noble cause of rehabilitation and reconstruction for the quake-hit people. Presiding Officer, Senator Khalid Ranjha also appreciated the opposition move as a “good gesture”. Leader of the House in the Senate, Senator Raza Rabbani said the opposition parties decided to sit with the government in larger national interest. “But, our presence there was not as committee members rather it was an informal get together to discuss our reservation with the government. “It was not a formal meeting, but a meeting for informal exchange of views on transparency, supremacy of Parliament and to know about the jurisdiction of the Committee,” Rabbani said.
